Band of Horses– Laredo
So I’m taking a break from copious amounts of Red Dead Redemption to give you some ear candy. The song is Laredo, which came off of Band of Horse’s new album that came out today. These dudes kinda look like cowboys and I have spent the last 5 hours riding on digital horses so I thought it would be fitting. Well I got to go, I have a Gossip Girl marathon ahead of me that I just can’t miss.

Mogwai – Glasgow Mega Snake
While I couldn’t have the faintest clue what the name of the title is implying exactly, I suppose that doesn’t matter. Mogwai is one of those bands that doesn’t appeal to everyone, but if you can wrap your head around this song you will not be disappoint.
The song itself is only about three minutes of pure awesomeness, so don’t be deterred by the seemingly long video. Also, the kid who put this up on youtube deserves a medal for a random picture of an angler fish.

Lil Wayne– Receipt
Remember Tha Carter II? Yea that shit was bomb. You have to hand it to Lil Wayne, that guy went viral when he first got big. For the last couple of years, he has been featured in like 80% of rap songs worth listening to. After Tha Carter 3 the guy has been unstoppable. Lil Wayne is the hardest working rapper in the industry, he puts out more mixtapes then McDonald’s puts out burgers. Unfortunately like any rapper worth his salt, he is doing a little jail time. I have a feeling this summer is going to be kinda lame for rap music when one of it’s biggest stars is locked up. We will miss you Lil Wayne, no blunt cruise would be complete without you.

Rufus Wainwright – The One You Love
Cinco de Mayo and stuff. Yep. It’s Mexico Day. I could give two shits about Mexico (yeaaaa Canada) so here’s Rufus Wainwright who, as far as my knowledge extends, has absolutely nothing to do with Mexico.
Rufus Wainwright just screams of talent. There’s just an ere about him that screams stupidly talented. There’s are other eres there as well, but I don’t really feel like addressing them because they’re pretty obvious. His vocals are pretty similar to Thom Yorke or Mathew Bellamy but don’t let that deter you. He is his own separate entity and his music is much more similar to that of Andrew Bird or St. Vincent.

The Paper Raincoat– Rough Cut
I just found this band like 10 minutes ago. So far so good. Paste is giving away one free download a week from their new album. “Rough Cut” sounds an awful lot like a Frou Frou song, so that may be why I like it so much. It’s a beautiful day so enjoy some beautiful music!

The Shins – A Call to Apathy (Gone for Good)
The Shins are an important band to me, man. I could really get into it. I could talk about how Girl on the Wing reminds me of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets since I had it on repeat the whole time I read the book, or I could talk about how Saint Simon reminds me of playing Runescape for 8 hours straight (I later played WoW which has soured that memory somewhat), but if I want to be honest The Shins were a just huge part of my life during highschool. I listened to them all the time. I associate so many of their songs with so many random memories, some good, some bad. I sometimes wish I could go back and listen to it all again, as if they were brand new to me, but I can’t. Cause that’s how life works and stuff.
Oh well. All I’m saying is that the other day I was talking to someone about The Broken Bells and they told me that The Broken Bells (the lead singer of The Shins side project which involves some dude from that band that wrote that Crazy song) were way better then The Shins have ever been. I would like to formally say that I disagree. I may have shit on The Shins a lot recently for their horribly nonsensical lyrics, but I’ve been taking this shit way too fucking seriously, man. It’s all just wordplay, clever wordplay.
Anyways, I’m done with all this ridiculous preachiness. Enjoy A Call to Apathy, the title has been a motto of mine for a good five years now.

Silversun Pickups– Substitution
Hey dudes, I know I’m breaking Uncle Vernon’s rule of “no post on Sunday,” but I had no time yesterday to give you song of the day. “Substitution” is the song I always use to try and convince myself I might like Silversun Pickups. In actuality, this band is pretty mediocre, but from time to time they give you something catchy. The video definitely helps, it features the sexiest game of musical chairs every played.
